My Village:
A Learning Village

My Village – A Learning Village is Galli Galli’s flagship citizen-led action initiative designed to address foundational literacy gaps among children aged 5 to 16. Rooted in the findings of our Citizen-led Assessments (CLA), this initiative provides remedial education through community-driven learning camps, phone-based support, and localized interventions. It empowers volunteers and educators to take direct action in helping children recover learning losses and build essential reading and numeracy skills.

The program is part of a global movement under the PAL Network, which empowers citizens across the Global South to take ownership of learning outcomes in their communities. In Nepal, Galli Galli has localized this model to fit the unique educational and social contexts of rural and urban municipalities. Know more about the context and concept note.

Every Language Teaches Us

Every Language Teaches Us (ELTU) is a multilingual education initiative that celebrates the power of indigenous languages in shaping children’s learning. As part of the global PAL Network project, ELTU in Nepal is implemented by Galli Galli to support foundational literacy through locally sourced, culturally rooted learning materials in children’s mother tongues. This initiative recognizes that language is not just a medium of instruction, it is a vessel of identity, heritage, and community knowledge. By using stories, songs, riddles, and proverbs in native languages, ELTU helps children learn to read and think critically while staying connected to their cultural roots.

Digital Literacy Assessment

Galli Galli is leading a pioneering initiative to assess and strengthen digital literacy among youth in Nepal and Sri Lanka. Using a citizen-led approach grounded in UNESCO’s Digital Literacy Global Framework, the project identifies foundational digital skills and access gaps across rural communities. In Sri Lanka, this work is implemented in partnership with the local organization Gate Institute, ensuring contextual relevance and community ownership. The initiative not only generates critical data for policy and program design but also builds local capacity through youth-led training and peer support.

Peace Education

Galli Galli is committed to nurturing a culture of empathy, nonviolence, and peace in schools across Nepal. In collaboration with Kommunikation for Livet (Denmark), we promote Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and emotional literacy through workshops, films, and school-based programs that help students and teachers build compassionate relationships. Additionally, in partnership with the Atrium Society (USA), we implement the Youth Peace Literacy Program, which equips educators with tools to address bullying, prejudice, and conflict through peace-centered pedagogy. Together, these initiatives foster inclusive learning environments where students can thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.
