Aligning Learning Assessment with Curriculum and Policy: Challenges and Opportunities

Under the “South Asian Assessment Alliance: Communicating and Collaborating for Change” project, a half-day consultation meeting was organized on 29th March 2023 at Hotel Himalaya. The meeting had in total 16 participants from the Education Review Office, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Tribhuwan University, Kathmandu University, private and public schools,s and CSOs working in the education sector. The objective of the meeting was to share knowledge and generate new ideas on how learning assessment can inform curriculum development and education policy in Nepal.

 

The meeting contributed to the discussion on gaps between curriculum, policy, and learning assessments from the diverse participants. The meeting also emphasized on the need to focus on delta reporting of learning i.e. what children already knew before learning and what change is seen in his/her learning outcome after learning. The participants acknowledged that all the stakeholders in the education sector need to communicate, coordinate and work together to improve children’s learning.
